Hollywood Records is a record label owned by the Walt Disney Company. It mainly focuses on pop music, although they do include some metalcore bands. The label was started in 1989 and initially distributed by Elektra Records in the US and Canada until 1995 when distribution switched to PolyGram (which became Universal Music Group in 1998.) Hollywood Records also releases many film soundtracks from films made by Disney or Disney-owned film studios. Together with Lyric Street Records, Mammoth Records and Walt Disney Records, it is as of 2008 part of the Disney Music Group.

Hollywood Records In Europe & AustraliaIn the Europe and Australia, Hollywood Records currently releases acts such as Hilary Duff, Jesse McCartney, and Aly & AJ through the EMI label, however in the past it has been distributed 'independently' through Edel Records for Duran Duran's Pop Trash album and had a sub-label called Tr1be in the early 1990s. Hollywood BASICHollywood BASIC was Disney's short-lived hip hop label, run by Dave Funkenklein and existing between 1990 and 1995. It was the first label to record DJ Shadow, releasing his "Lesson 4" (a reference to Double Dee and Steinski) as the b-side to a 1991 single by Lifers' Group, a hip hop group comprised of ex-convicts. It also released his "Legitimate Mix" on the b-side to a single by Zimbabwe Legit in 1992.[1] Other notable releases came from Organized Confusion, whose challenging second album Stress: The Extinction Agenda (1994) is widely acclaimed.[2] The label was also home to Charizma and Peanut Butter Wolf, though following the shooting and killing of Charizma in 1993, the music the duo recorded for it was not released. This would later inspire Peanut Butter Wolf to found Stones Throw Records in order to make this music available.[3] Hollywood Records Executive Bios
