The Prussian House of Lords (seat of the Federal Council)

The German term Herrenhaus is equivalent to the English House of Lords and describes roughly similar institutions as the English House of Lords in German-speaking countries.

More specifically, Herrenhaus, can refer to either of the following:

• The Prussian House of Lords was the first chamber of the Prussian parliament. The Herrenhaus building in Leipziger Straße 3-4 in Berlin, designed by the architect Friedrich Schulze-Colditz and erected between 1899 and 1904, is currently the seat of the German Federal Council. See also Prussia.

• The House of Lords was the Upper House of the Reichsrat of the Austrian half of Austria-Hungary (Cisleithania) between 1867 and 1918. See Reichsrat (Austria).
