Glenlyon Dam (also known as Pike Creek Reservoir) lies near the southern Queensland border with New South Wales, roughly between Stanthorpe and Texas to the west. The dam wall was built on Pike Creek, a tributary of the Dumaresq River, 5 km upstream from the confluence of the Mole River and Severn River branching from the Dumaresq.
Glenlyon Dam provides water for irrigation of grain and fodder crops. Swimming, fishing, boating and water skiing are all permitted.
In mid 1994, the dam was at a critically low level of 5 % and the next year rose to just 12% of capacity during a series of droughts in Australia.1 In late 2007 and early 2008 water levels rose until the dam was filled and Pike creek flooded.2
Fishing
A Stocked Impoundment Permit is required to fish in the dam3.
