The Northern Territory of Australia has the highest level of crime per capita of any state or territory in Australia. Darwin has per capita the highest crime rate of any Australian city, while Alice Springs has the second highest crime rate of any Australian city (and the highest murder rate).
March 2004 - Darwin sex workers Phuangsri Kroksamrang, 58, and Somjai Insamnan, 27, were bound with cable ties and thrown alive into the Adelaide River, near Darwin by Ben William McLean and Phu Ngoc Trinh. 7
July 2007 - Darwin's former lord mayor Peter Adamson was found guilty of stealing almost $3,000 from the council in the form of a fridge and gift vouchers. He is currently awaiting a sentence to be handed down in August.8

In the Northern Territory, most serious crime is alleged to be conducted by motorcycle gangs. The Darwin division of the Hells Angels is believed to be responsible for most of the semi-organised crime in the Northern Territory.
