History

Canalys.com, formerly Canalys Corporation, was founded in 1998 in the United Kingdom as an independent industry analyst house.5 Canalys, from the Latin meaning ‘channel’6 emphasizes a core focus of the company’s research. The twin focus areas of convergence and routes to market are regarded by the company as central to all its research activities.7

In September 2006, the company opened a second office in Singapore, expanding its presence and research attention in the Asia Pacific region,8 and in June 2008, it opened a third office in Palo Alto, California, to service the Americas region.9

Canalys also operates an online IT channel community portal, Candefero,10 through which it makes market intelligence available to members in exchange for points, earned by completing surveys and polls. Membership is restricted to companies operating in the channel. Candefero was announced and launched in beta version in February 2008.11
