Camp Marmal is the largest base of the Bundeswehr out of Germany. It is located outside of Mazar e Sharif, Afghanistan and centered around an airport. The camp hosts the ISAF Regional Command North.
About 2,000 soldiers are currently stationed at Camp Marmal, of which are about 1,500 Germans together with Norwegians, Dutch and other nations. Moreover, a large airborne detachment consisting of Tornado reconnaissance jets, Transall transporters and CH-53 helicopters are stationed there.
The base hosts a large medical center for ISAF forces and also local civilians.
