Cairnbaan is a village situated on the Crinan Canal , in Argyll and Bute , western Scotland . Cairnbaan is around halfway between the two ends of the canal, Ardrishaig and Crinan The name, from Scottish Gaelic , literally means "white hill". On the hill itself, there are cup and ring marks dating back to the Iron Age .
The village has a hotel that was built in the 18th century, and featured in the television series The Tales of Para Handy , based on the novels of Neil Munro .
