Boston Red Stockings, or variations, may refer to any of several Boston professional baseball teams, four of which used the word "Red" in their team nicknames:
The Boston Red Stockings, established in 1871, which were Boston's first professional club and was named for the Cincinnati Red Stockings. After a couple of league changes, name changes and franchise shifts, the club is now known as the Atlanta Braves.
The Boston Red Sox, established in 1901. The club adopted the name "Red Sox" in 1908 after their intra-city rivals temporarily dropped the red trim from their uniforms. They were called the "Red Sox" from the beginning, rather than "Red Stockings" or "Reds".
