Boston Red Stockings, or variations, may refer to any of several Boston professional baseball teams, four of which used the word "Red" in their team nicknames:

  • The Boston Red Stockings, established in 1871, which were Boston's first professional club and was named for the Cincinnati Red Stockings. After a couple of league changes, name changes and franchise shifts, the club is now known as the Atlanta Braves.
  • The Boston Reds of the Union Association in 1884. The team was also called the "Unions".
  • The Boston Red Stockings of the Players League in 1890 and the American Association in 1891. The club was called "Reds" more often than "Red Stockings".
  • The Boston Red Sox, established in 1901. The club adopted the name "Red Sox" in 1908 after their intra-city rivals temporarily dropped the red trim from their uniforms. They were called the "Red Sox" from the beginning, rather than "Red Stockings" or "Reds".
