In quantum mechanics, the Born probability is a probability of an event calculated from a wavefunction. The probability (or its density) equals the squared modulus of the normalized complex probability amplitude an:
- P = | an | 2
The interpretation that the physical meaning of the wavefunction is probabilistic was proposed by Max Born, and it became a pillar of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics.
