Bioheat is a blend of biofuel and heating oil (or No. 2 Fuel Oil) for off-road, non-taxable heating applications. It is very similar to Biodiesel, and in fact, in the United States the term "Bioheat" is a registered trademark of the National Biodiesel Board (NBB) and the National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA). These groups have approved blends of up to 5% biofuel, or B5 Bioheat.
On September, 2006, Bioheat became available in Canada as a 20% blend with Ultra Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (ULSD) for residential homes on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The product "BioHeat" is currently only distributed by Columbia Fuels, a Vancouver Island based home heating oil company and largest distributor of blended Biodiesel in Canada. Columbia Fuels owns the Canadian trademark for Bioheat.
