B-cell receptors are proteins found on the surface of B cells.1

An association with systemic lupus erythematosus has been suggested.2

There are several different types of B-cell receptors, but an individual B-cell can only produce one. B-cell receptors bind antigens, triggering growth and proliferation of B-cells and production of antigen-specific immunoglobulin. This also results in the production of memory cells, which will proliferate if the body is ever exposed to the antigen again.

A B-cell receptor is better known as an antibody.
