Artpace is a contemporary art center that houses the Pace Roberts Foundation for Contemporary Art in San Antonio, Texas1 founded in 1995 by Linda Pace in a converted car dealership.2 The center was originally privately funded,2 but is now publicly funded.verification needed Some have claimed it as one of the United States' most prestigious residency programs34 with more than 800 applications received for their "Artist in Residence" program in one year5 and more than 90 participating in its first eight years of operation.6 Participants come from countries throughout the world, including Estonia and Australia and the program is supported in part by a grant from the Warhol Foundation of New York City.78
