• March - NASA will launch the Ares I launch vehicle and the Orion 2 spacecraft on its first manned mission to the International Space Station.
• April 29 - Annular solar eclipse.
• July 23 - 2014 Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow, Scotland.
• August 24 - The NASA's New Horizons spacecraft will cross the orbit of Neptune after 8½ years journey on to Pluto. It will be faster than Voyager 2, which took 12 years.
• September 21 - Swedish general election: Sweden holds elections for the Riksdag.
• October 23 - Partial solar eclipse.
• November - Presidential elections in Romania.
• November 4 - Elections for the United States Congress and several state governorships.

• The 2014 FIFA World Cup will be held in Brazil.
• Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers will be delivered to the Royal Navy.
• The United States Open Championship golf tournament will be held in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
• The Ryder Cup golf tournament will be held in Gleneagles, Scotland.
• The Masdar City is scheduled to be completed. It's goal is to be the world's first fully sustainable, zero-carbon, and zero-waste city.
• The International Cometary Explorer, a NASA solar probe that was re-tooled for a mission to explore comets, will approach Earth 31 years after leaving its gravitational influence. Unless it is again reactivated for a new mission, it has enough propellant to be re-captured in the Earth system and potentially recovered. It has already been donated to the Smithsonian Institution if it is ever recovered.
• The United States Government ban on incandescent lightbulbs to take effect.
