Antalya Airport (IATA: AYT, ICAO: LTAI) is 10 km (6 miles) east of the city center of Antalya, Turkey. The airport is operated in Turkey's primary holiday destination located on the country’s Mediterranean coast. The airport is big and modern, built to accommodate the millions of passengers who come to Turkey's Mediterranean beaches in summer. It handled nearly 18 million passengers in 2007, more than 15 million of which were international passengers. The airport has two international terminals and one domestic terminal. Based on the projection from August 2007 data, it currently has a capacity to accommodate up to 35 million passengers/year, theoretically. Opening of Gazipaşa Airport between Anamur and Alanya, which is about 100km to the east of AYT, will help ease the airport's traffic.
The construction of Antalya Airport International Terminal 1 started in 1996 by Bayindir Holding and it was ready for service on 1st April, 1998. In 1999 Fraport AG and Bayindir Holding signed a joint venture agreement.The Terminal 1 is operated by the Fraport AG. Now there is an additional new International Terminal, the Terminal 2, which is operated by Celebi company.

It ranked 16th, 14th, 13th, 15th and 26th for monthly international passenger traffic in June, July, August, September and October 2007 in the world, with 2,077,906, 2,477,000, 2,629,375, 2,279,521, 1,625,022 international passengers, respectively. It ranked 30th for year-to-date international passenger traffic as of 31/10/2007 with 14,294,283 international passengers. It had the biggest percent increase with respect to previous year among this ACI top-30 list in this period (23%). [4]
In May, June, July and August 2008, AYT ranked 19th, 13th, 11th, and 12th respectively, among world airports in international passenger traffic.
As of the end of August 2008, AYT ranks 30th on ACI's 12 month international passenger traffic ranking in ACIs top-30 world airports list. The number of AYT's international passengers in 12 months that span the period 09/01/2007 to 08/31/2008 is 16,251,729 (corresponds to a 17% increase w.r.t previous 12 month period, the most in the top-30 list). AYT is closely following PMI and LAX which had under 17 million international passengers during the same period.
