Andrew Neil Hamilton (born 1954) is a British comedian, game show panellist, director, and comedy scriptwriter for television and radio.

Early life

Hamilton was born in Fulham, south-west London. Despite being born with ten fingers, soon after his birth it was noticed that six of these were on the same hand. At the age of five, his extra thumb was removed; as a result, Andy has no thumb on his right hand.citation needed Hamilton is not a dwarf, despite his diminutive stature.

Educated at a grammar school, Hamilton read English at Downing College, Cambridge, where he was a member of the Cambridge University Light Entertainment Society (CULES).

Career

Early career

Hamilton first came to major notice whilst performing in the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival in the 1970s.

Television work

He has appeared regularly in Chelmsford 123, Have I Got News for You, The News Quiz, QI, and If I Ruled the World. Andy is the voice of Dr. Elephant, the dentist in the children's' show Peppa Pig.

Radio work

His early radio work included Week Ending and The News Huddlines.2

On 16 March 2007, he co-presented BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour programme, alongside usual presenter Martha Kearney, as part of that day's Comic Relief fundraising activities, after defeating Richard Hammond and Kelvin Mackenzie in a poll. Hamilton is an occasional guest panellist in I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue and on The News Quiz.

Since 1995, Hamilton has written and played the lead role of Satan in the Radio 4 sitcom Old Harry's Game.

Andy is currently touring with his UK stand-up show “Hat of Doom” 2008.

Personal life

He supports Chelsea FC.citation needed He is married to Libby Asher, the mother of his three children - Pip, Robbie, and Isobel - and lives in Wimbledon.citation needed

Andy is 5'3" tall, and his small stature has provided jokes on Have I Got News For You and The News Quiz. He attributes his short height to his mother, who he claims wouldn't feed him adequate vegetables.
