Alatau or Ala Too (Russian: Алатау, Kazakh: Алатау, Kyrgyz: Ала-Тоо), meaning "motley mountain" in Turkic languages, is a generic name for a number of mountain ranges in Central Asia, characterized by interleaving areas of vegetation, scattered rocks and snows.
