On Monday January 29, 2007, Bowater and Abitibi-Consolidated announced they would be merging to create AbitibiBowater Inc. (NYSEABH, TSXABH). 2 A website has been setup to convey information to employees, and shareholders. If the merger goes ahead it would created the third largest pulp and paper company in North America, and the eighth largest in the world. The merger is currently pending shareholder and regulatory approval.

It will be headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
