Abercraf lies in the extreme south of the county, in the Upper Swansea Valley 2.5 miles (4 km) northeast of the small town of Ystradgynlais. It is situated just outside the boundary of the Brecon Beacons National Park, which lies to the immediate north, east, and west of the village.
Amenities
Abercraf has a number of public houses, a rugby union club (Abercraf RFC), and a Miners' Welfare Hall, a testament to the village's coal mining past. The coal pits in nearby Caehopcyn ceased production in the 1960s, although an open cast coal mine continues to operate in the region.
Abercraf lies beneath the slopes of Cribarth mountain, famous for its 'Sleeping Giant' outline, clearly visible from the nearby A4067Swansea to Brecon road.
