The 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) is a U.S. Army Special Forces unit that was activated on 5 December 1963 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. It was deactivated in 1969 with members transferring to the various special forces groups. The 3rd was reactivated in 1990 and up until the mid 90s, was given responsibility of the Caribbean as well as the western part of Africa. In 1994, they took part in the restoration of democracy in Haiti. Currently, the group is responsible for operations in sub-Saharan Africa except for the Eastern Horn of Africa.
